Study of James: Finale

The curtain falls on this, our pioneer project into the wonderful world of Bible Study.     Join us, this coming Sunday, as Mr Paul Liu leads us along the final lap into the words of the Holy Scripture according to James. See below for details.

Mr Liu is no stranger to us. The eldest son of Pastor and Mrs Lau,  he is brother to the well-beloved resident chior mistress Ms Tabitha Liu, and the much-missed little boy, Given Liu. A graduate of Singapore Management University, he has had many years of experience in the field of leadership in the Youth Group, having served several terms in the executive committee of Kingdom Seekers (KS). He was also Chairman of Kingdom Seekers Senior (KSS) from 2003-2005, and served in an advisory capacity to KSS from 2005-2006. During the course of his illustrious years of service, Mr Liu has chaired countless meetings, lead in several exhortations and Bible Studies, including the now-defunct (but soon-to-be revived, God willing) Refuge BS. He attributes all glory to God for his goodness to him.

Mr Liu currently runs a Brownie Business with his partner Mr Joshua Tan, at Dhoby Xchange. He enjoys a good game of soccer at Bishan and whacking buffet lines, especially if its cheap and good.

Pray without Ceasing

January 9, 2008

So deep are our necessities, that until we are in heaven we must not cease to pray. Dost thou want nothing? Then I fear thou dost not know thy poverty. Hast thou no mercy to ask of God? Then, may the Lord’s mercy show thee thy misery! A prayerless soul is a Christless soul.” – Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

No words other than those in Holy Scripture could have put it as well as the Prince of Preachers did. Truly, the Lord commands His people to maintain a constant communication with Him 1 Thess 5:17-18.

It is His way of keeping them, and preserving them.

Without prayer, we lose our focus, lose touch of who we are, forget our true identities as sons and daughters of the Most High. All that, with most deadly consequences.

Indeed, what I have just said is an oft-mentioned exhortation, and would have non-effect on a reader just glancing through these words with the thoughts of “I’ve-heard-this-all -before” shuttling through their mind.

But I say this nontheless: Harken unto this, my earnest counsel. Do not take for-granted the necessity of prayer in our lives.

For the guys, we sing Hymn 462 with laughter in our hearts, but it would be good to take a moment and meditate on the words therein once in awhile. Know that it is with the power of prayer that weakened Israel crushed mighty Amalek in the deserts of Rephidim! Thus it applies in our lives as well.

Oh, my beloved brothers and sisters thus i conclude: pray… pray in your personal devotions, pray when you are in trouble, pray when you are blessed, pray with your comrades as well! come for church prayer meetings (every 1st and 3rd friday of the month, in church at 8pm), come for KSS prayer meetings when they are organized, pray… pray without ceasing!

In-His-Service,

Timotheus.

December 17, 2007

Yes, the theme has to do with ‘Lost’, but please don’t get lost at the campsite.

I’ve travelled to NSRCC just yesterday on bike (one might call it rece). Expect the bungalow to be smaller than last year’s site, despite having two floors. However, facilities such as a swimming pool and a playground are available, and the beach is nearby for activities including dunking. BBQ pits come with each bungalow. Campers who have a National Service Resort & Country Club membership card, bring it along to possibly get benefits, especially since we get a total of only 16 ‘bungalow passes’.

For those who drive, the only way to the site is by Changi Coast Walk, unfortunately taking a long loop around much of the surrounding golf courses even though it’s right next to the expressway. More information can be found HERE.

Now below is a satellite image of NSRCC, from Google Earth. The resolution is great! The numbers you see are our bungalows, 16 and 17. Note that this image is stil quite outdated, the dirt path along East Coast Park is now made proper. There are also changes within NSRCC, most noticeable a wet play area south of the pool.

The side bar is now updated with December Activities, somehow skipping November. Check right.

Below I’ve transcribed an edited copy of the activity details. (Note to author, please use shorter and simpler sentence structures XD)

PathFinder
This is an innovative reality challenge, with an original concept.
Stay out in front as the Leader, where you may utilize certain benefits to stretch your advantage, or work your way towards the lead as part of the CHASING PACK, where you may co-operate with others to overtake and grab the lead, which you must then jealously protect.
Find yourself a partner, and participate as a pair in this exhilarating, and innovative race. Work together as a pair as you overcome obstacles, solve puzzles based on a Biblical theme, and race to the finish!

Date: 10-11 December
2 Days & 1 Night! Yes, it includes a stayover after the end of the first leg!

KSS Retreat 2007
LOST – Post Tenebras Lux

LOST is the theme for the style and activities of the Retreat.
Post Tenebras Lux is Latin for ‘After Darkness, Light’. This phrase was the motto for the Protestant Reformation. After the struggles of our church and her members in recent times, this Retreat aims to help campers look back to the great triumph of the 16th and 17th centuries, where the immense doctrine of justification of faith alone was rediscovered, and draw inspiration and strength from it.

Join us for a time of post-Christmas spiritual study, reflection, fellowship and fun!
If you thought last year’s retreat was great, NSRCC promises bigger and better bungaloows, with sandy beaches, open areas, and more facilities.
Pastor Bernard Low will be preaching a series of messages focusing on the relevance of the Reformation, and the importance of the Doctrines of Grace.

Date: 26-29 December
Venue: National Service Resort & Country Club, Bungalows 16 & 17

Greetings everyone! It’s September already! The time & date thingy in your lower right hand corner changed month just a few minutes ago!
